A woman would have to be more than interesting to get me to leave earlier than I needed to, to get to work for a chance to see her. I’m waiting for her in my office.

I got to work after seven, the same time I saw her the day before. Nevertheless, just like yesterday, she wasn’t there. While I was glad she took my advice to stop getting in early, I kicked myself too.

Tania emailed letting me know we’d be meeting at eight-ish. That ish for her could mean anything from eight-thirty to nine. I’m used to watching her habits when we all get together as a group. Her husband is the same. I’m not like that. I have the military concept of time drilled into me. So eight is eight. There is no such thing as ish.

I am hoping though that maybe Lana is a little like me in that respect, so she’ll at least venture down here to see me before Tania gets here.

The files we need to work on are already here, and there’s a fuck of a lot. It’s supposed to be for three patients but there’s a lot of boxes. It’s going to take all day.

I’m about to get up and go for coffee when a little knock sounds on my door.

The cautiousness of the knock already gives me an inkling that it might be the newest subject of my obsession.

“Come in,” I say, and sure enough, it’s her.

Today the sexy doctor has her hair down in a mass of curls, and I’m guessing that’s how it looks when she leaves it to air-dry—sexy as hell.

It hangs down her bare shoulders over a soft pink camisole top the same color as her glossy lips.

The little skirt she’s wearing hugs her frame, showing off long elegant legs I’d love to have wrapped around me. The sexiest thing about her is that she has no idea what effect she has on me. I doubt she has a clue as to how any man with eyes would be looking at her if they saw her. She just pads into the office completely oblivious.

“Hi,” she says, snapping my attention to her.

Those bright blue eyes stare into me, and I wish like hell I didn’t see the desire I feel in them.

“Hello, Doctor,” I say with a little smile.

“I wanted to talk to you about yesterday before we get started on work.” Nerves fill her voice.

“Oh really?”

“Yes. I’m not dating right now because I can’t, and yesterday I got carried away. I didn’t want to see you again and it be weird if…well, just weird.”

She’s talking but I’m still not hearing that no or element of negativity. As far as I’m concerned I gave her the chance to tell me no yesterday and she didn’t take it.

She obviously didn’t take it because she didn’t want to. So right now, my emphasis is on the word can’t. She said she can’t.

Why?

I rise to my feet and step closer to her. She brings her hands together and gazes up at me.
